  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla bean paste (or vanilla extract)
  • 1–2 tbsp milk (for thinning, as needed)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. Cream softened butter and sugar until light; add eggs one at a time and stir in vanilla.
  4. Alternate mixing in the dry ingredients and buttermilk until just combined.
  5. Spread batter evenly in the pan and bake for 22–25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. For the glaze, melt butter in a saucepan until golden brown; mix in powdered sugar, maple syrup, and vanilla bean paste.
  7. Pour glaze over cooled bars and let set before slicing.
