  • 2 tbsp Kashmiri or other green tea
  • 1/2 tsp Baking soda
  • 12 Star anise
  • 2 Cardamom pods (crushed)
  • 1 Cinnamon stick
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 2 cups Whole milk
  • Sugar or honey to taste
  • Crushed nuts (e.g., almonds) for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Boil water in a saucepan and add green tea. Boil for about 5 minutes.
  2. Stir in baking soda; the water will turn deep red. Boil for another 2 minutes.
  3. Add star anise, crushed cardamom, and cinnamon stick. Boil for another minute.
  4. Reduce heat and simmer for 20-30 minutes until reduced by half.
  5. Stir in salt to enhance flavor.
  6. Add whole milk and bring back to a boil while stirring continuously until it turns pink.
  7. Remove from heat, strain into cups, and sweeten to taste.
  8. Garnish with crushed nuts if desired.
