  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves

  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ cup sanding sugar (for rolling the cookies)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, beat together shortening, granulated sugar, and egg until creamy. Add boiled apple cider and mix well.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, and spices. Slowly combine with wet ingredients until just mixed.
  3. Chill the dough for 1 hour in the refrigerator.
  4. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Shape chilled dough into tablespoon-sized balls and roll in sanding sugar before placing on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  5. Bake for 9-11 minutes until edges are golden but centers are soft. Cool completely on a wire rack.
